At The Country Yard, we’re excited to announce that New Zealand patchwork designer Ngaire Brooks is going to run a class in our very own workroom!
Ngaire is going to take you through one of her own patterns, a holder for wool threads, which is as much fun to create as it is useful. Made from wool, Ngaire will teach you how to work with this lovely, tactile medium.
Ngaire Brooks – drawing inspiration for patchwork designs from her garden and from her travels
Ngaire is inspired everyday by what she sees in her garden – the colours, shapes and critters. Her quilts are full of small details, which you don’t always notice at first sight; wee snails, caterpillars and bees all populate her designs, creating exquisite details which are well-worth the time and effort. Every time you look at one of her designs, you notice something different, providing endless delight to everyone who sees them.
When it comes to colours, Ngaire is drawn to mellow, antique colours which give her finished projects a timeless quality. After spending so much time on quilts and other patchwork creations, she believes in using colours which never date.

Thread Holder Workshop with Ngaire Brooks
16th August and 30th August, 10.00am to 2.30pm
Wool is one of our favourite mediums as it’s such a wonderful, natural, tactile fabric to work with. Ngaire chose to use wool in this project to encourage other crafters to have a go, she’s a firm believer in keeping handcrafting skills alive, so she’ll show you how to work with wool and what you can do with it.
The project she has chosen for the workshop is a holder for threads, designed so you can pull threads out from pockets – no more losing your threads on the floor! There’s also a handy place to put your scissors and your needle book. It’s a great, practical project which you can throw in your bag for on-the-go crafting. Featuring cute bees and flowers which are Ngaire’s signature details, you will love making and using this wool thread holder.
Join us for this exciting workshop with New Zealand patchwork designer, Ngaire Brooks. Learn some new skills, make some new friends and take home your own hand-made thread holder!
