We’ve worked hard to make The Country Yard shop and surrounding grounds a lovely place for customers to visit, and we’ve always prided ourselves on being more than a shop.
Recently, one of our Auckland customers paid us a visit and enjoyed her time with us so much she wrote us a lovely guest blog for our website.
The Country Yard – a craft barn with a difference!
“Nestled amongst the verdant patchwork of farmland and orchard gardens is The Country Yard, purveyors of all things patchwork. I’ve always been a devoted customer of The Country Yard and have spent many blissful hours browsing their website and indulging in their wonderful range of fabric craft and patchwork products. So, when I found myself up north one weekend, I decided to take the opportunity to drop in and see them in person.
Driving up their driveway, manicured gardens and lawns sprawling on either side, I mused at how the pictures on their website just don’t do the grounds justice. It is worth a visit just to see the gardens!
As I stepped through the doorway of the rustic barn-style shop, I realised I had walked into a paradise for those of us who love stitching.
Everywhere you look, there’s wide range of whimsical stitchery designs, kits, and patchwork fabrics and fat quarters in every hue.
I offer up a warning – when you step just one foot into The Country Yard, prepare to be blown away! There is a project here for every keen stitcher, whether they be a beginner or experienced. Bags are my thing, so I was keen to peruse their range of patchwork bag patterns and kits. I wasn’t disappointed! I ended up buying two patchwork bag patterns – the Sunshiny Day Bag, which is just new in, and the Kiwiana Patchwork Bag. The Country Yard’s range of Kiwiana fabrics is beautiful, and bought enough fabric to make two bags – one for my mum and one for me.
I’d like to mention here how wonderful the team at The Country Yard are. Kerryn helped me chose a selection of complementary fabrics for both my bag kits that I never would have thought of. Her knowledge about colour and pattern was invaluable and I would have been lost without her advice!
It’s not just about the kits and fabrics. The ladies at The Country Yard know that finishing touches can turn your patchwork or sewing project into a work of art.
From a divine range of threads in every colour to the most adorable array of whimsical buttons, The Country Yard shop is like a treasure trove of embellishments for fabric craft lovers – you never know what you’re going to find in each little nook and cranny. I found myself drawn to and mesmerised by a display of buttons near the front door, and spent a ridiculous amount of time gazing at them. I’m not at all ashamed at how many buttons I bought, because I know they will make my finished patchwork bags look amazing!
Light and airy, the purpose-built sewing workroom provides an ideal spot for the classes The Country Yard offer.
As a keen quilter and stitcher, I’ve visited a great many fabric craft shops in my time, but I have never seen anything like the workroom at The Country Yard. Set up with everything a sewing class could want, it’s so cosy and full of inspiration that I wanted to sit right down and start stitching! But that must wait till the 2nd of December, as I’m coming back to do the Christmas Night Patchwork course. Now that I’ve seen the workshop I just can’t wait.
I’m already looking forward to seeing the patchwork classes will be offered by The Country Yard in 2017!
I’d like to offer my congratulations to Kerryn and her team for creating such a wonderful haven for stitchers. I look forward to seeing you again soon!”
